I’m in California and had a very tight time frame for a specialty move of one item in Massachusetts. I contacted several movers via the Yelp app and Fresh Start Moving responded quickly. Fresh Start promptly provided a quote for an extremely competitive price and within my time frame.
The move was trouble-free and they accepted my credit card as payment. Service providers at this level are very hard to find.

*UPDATE – The owner contacted us and had someone come in and fix all the damage caused by the crew that moved us. The person he sent did an awesome job, my furniture looks brand new. I would definitely feel confident recommending this company now. The owner showed that he cared and definitely made it right. This is exactly how a business should be run! He’s a stand up guy and I know he has a great crew under him now.
I typically do not like to give such a poor review of a company, but a month and a half after my move I am still finding damage to my belongings. The owner came out to our home and inventoried all our belongings and gave us a very detailed quote, and we were very impressed. We decided to go ahead and hire him based on this meeting and the quote which we found very reasonable. Unfortunately, that is pretty much where the good experience ended. On the day of the move, the crew showed up with no locks for the trucks, and without a dolly to move the furniture.The trucks were supposed to park back to back in the driveway of our new home to compensate for the fact that they didn’t have locks, but only one truck made it to the house. The owner was very responsive when we called to find out where the other truck was and made sure to track it down and put a lock on it. I thought that was where the trouble would end, I was wrong. The next day, the crew arrived again without a dolly to move the furniture. They damaged in some way pretty much all of my nice furniture. They broke the footboard of my bed when moving it out of my old house, they were supposed to fix it by the next day but couldn’t be bothered. They took a chunk out
of my dresser and scratched it. They gouged my night stand, broke the doors on my TV stand, gouged up the walls in my new house and scratched up my dining room table. Not many of my belongings made it through unscathed. These are things I spent my hard earned money on and paid a good amount of money to have them safely moved. I expected some damage, but not this much. Once we paid, we noticed that they had put a charge for 2 overnights and we only had one overnight. We contacted the owner and because of the service he was very nice and refunded some of our money. We thought this was a refund for the erroneous charge and the issues with the locks and the missing truck so we were pleased with that credit. We paid $150 for insurance for our belongings in the event of damage, so as we started to discover the damage to our belongings we reached out to the owner to ask about the insurance and we were told he had already given us a refund of some of our
money and asked us not to “abuse him”, I
thought the refunded money was for the poor service provided by his crew, I didn’t realize that he would think a $500 credit would make up for damaging nearly all of my furniture. I was actually
offended by him asking us not to abuse him, your crew showed 0 care or respect for my
property and I thought I paid for insurance to
protect me in the event of damage. In fairness, i understand the owner has hired new people who are very professional and terminated some of the people who were on this job, but l am not sure how that is any consolation to me. I stopped even reporting the damage to my belongings because it was clear to me that he thought he had done enough to make up for it. Again, the owner is a professional and is running an honest business but I don’t think that hiring people who clearly don’t respect him or his business or his customers should be my loss.

The process from beginning to end was very easy and took away all the stress that an August 31st move in the city usually has. I worked with Holly to get our quote and she was very thorough and attentive. The estimate they provide is very detailed and straightforward so you know exactly what you are paying for. My crew was Tom, Will and Darryl who were extremely polite, prompt, and worked very efficiently. They were very skilled at getting a large, long dresser down a narrow 3 flight staircase. I don’t often leave reviews but felt compelled to do so for Fresh Start! This was our second move with them, the first one being four years ago, and they did not disappoint! Everyone from Elyssa in the office to the two crews that moved us out and in our new house a week later were professional and incredibly knowledgeable and kind. We had an unexpected delay and went from needing 2 nights of storage to 6 nights and it was no problem for Fresh Start! They were on top of everything and exactly where they said they would be when they said they would be there! After dealing with a nightmare of a mortgage company who dropped the ball on their end and a less than helpful lawyer, we were stuck waiting to go on record when the movers arrived! I was mortified and apologized profusely but the moving crew was incredibly gracious about the situation & started preparing as much as they could. Luckily we got in the house quickly but they were prepared for whatever situation arose. In a stressful real estate transaction fresh start was by far the easiest party to deal with! The movers were so careful with our things and incredibly polite & helpful. Cannot recommend fresh start enough! Shout out to Jose who was there for both moves and is a superstar! I cannot recommend Fresh Start Moving Company enough!! Kristen was incredibly helpful getting the move scheduled and running me through the process of how the day would look. The move with Ron and Gene went quick and efficiently despite it being a less than ideal 93 degree day. Unfortunately, there was a a little scratch on my apartment floor but James the owner was incredibly responsive and took the time to come by and fix the floor and deal with my awful landlord prior to my lease ending so I would not have to stress any longer. Recently my partner and I moved from Arlington, MA to Pelham, MA. We got bids from 5 different movers, including Fresh Start. Although FS was among the least expensive quotes, they weren’t the very cheapest, but we went with them anyway, and we are so glad we did. Everyone we worked with at FS was wonderful; not just professional, but kind and thoughtful. It started with a virtual walkthrough with Jamie, the owner. While talking, he mentioned how pleased he was that, during that week, he was able to keep 30 people employed – in other words he seemed like a genuinely decent human being. At the end he said “I hope you have a great move, whoever you go with,” and seemed to really mean it. After that we worked with Kristen, a move coordinator. She was also helpful, friendly and knowledgeable, and helped us figure out a schedule, what, if any, extra insurance might be good, and all the other details. She was a constant cheerful presence, and also expressed great admiration for Jamie as a boss and as a person. Finally the day came and the 5-person crew arrived, Rainell, John, Jeremiah, Demonte and Cameron. Again to a person they were hard-working, friendly, skilled, and professional. At one point I was chatting with Rai, and he said “I tell people, don’t judge someone by his size – show me his heart and I’ll tell you who will get the job done.” Well this team had heart. They got our place moved with hardly any trouble at all – including when it came time to to hoist my sofa over a freshly painted second floor balcony. Not a scratch on either the balcony or the sofa They were amazing. At one point I said to Cameron, the youngest member, that it seemed like a good crew to work on. He said, yeah, not only were they great to work with, but they actually took the time to explain to you how things were done so you could become more skilled. And another example: I ordered pizza for everyone – seemed the least I could do – and they even made a point to knock that half an hour off the bill. Rai and John managed the crew perfectly, Rai in the truck and John in the house. And Demonte and Jeremiah, though neither were what you would call big guys, by the end I was half ready to see if they could pick up the truck and carry it. And I wouldn’t have been surprised if they did That’s heart – all of it. Everyone knows moving house is dreadful, and frankly I hope never to do it again. But if I did, this is the exact crew I would want to work with. I couldn’t recommend them more highly.

The crew was very respectful and considerate of our needs throughout the process. They treated our belonging as it was their own and there as very minimal and minor issues with the move, which consisted of loading and unloading, removing our mpounted television, and assembling and disassembling the large pieces of furniture such as our hutch and queen size bed frame. There estimate of the cost was also on target with the actual cost and was extremely reasonable in my opinion. I would encourage anyone who is makniug a move, whether it be a short or a long distance, to consider Fresh Start.

They did a great job packing up our home and moving all of our belongings into a storage unit. They kept reiterating they were there to remove the stress and burden of this extremely stressful process. They took great care of our items, great care of us and wrapped what was necessary.
